> background

Kettlebelling is a back-to-basics strength-training program that produces dramatic
results in workouts as short as 15 minutes (although classes are generally one
hour in length.)

The Kettlebell is a
traditional Russian
cast iron weight that
looks like a cannonball
with a handle.
Its roots go back as
far as Tsarist Russia,
and has only recently been
introduced to elite gyms in the
U.S. by
Pavel Tsatsouline,
a former Spetsnaz instructor.

Kettlebell exercises are characterized by focused cardio activities that involve
swinging kettlebells through precise and balanced movements.  As students gain
strength and improve form, weights are gradually increased.  The results are
dramatic, with women being able to swing 16 kg (35 lb) bells with relative ease.

> basic tenets of kettlebelling

    STRENGTH TRAINING
Kettlebelling builds dynamic strength and increases the flexibility of the
    body's entire muscular system.

    FAT BURNING
Kettlebelling burns fat by integrating a series of cardio activities that quickly
increase the heart’s rate and burns a tremendous amount of calories.

    BODY AWARENESS
Kettlebelling develops body awareness through activities that require mental
    focus and attentiveness.

    EXERCISE EFFICIENCY
Kettlebelling provides maximum results in a very short period of time with a
    minimal time commitment.

    FIGHT THE EFFECTS OF AGING
As we age, many illnesses we acquire are the direct result of our lack of
muscle mass and physical strength.  The failure of normal joint function can
be related to weakness of supporting muscles, ligaments, and tendons.  A
lack of quality exercise and physical fitness only adds to the aging process.
Unlike some exercises that focus on one or two muscle groups, kettlebells
work on all areas of the body and gets the whole body working.  By
developing strength, especially around weakened or injured areas,
kettlebells is an effective way to promote health and fight the effects of aging.

    LIVE AN ACTIVE LIFE
How many of us have limited our activities as we age in order to
accommodate our aches and pains?  Some of this is just good sense, but
when you realize the benefits from the core conditioning and explosive
strength that kettlebells offers, you will see that you’re depriving yourself of a
    full life.

In kettlebelling, power is projected from your core’s strength, while bringing
speed out to the arms.  Its movements are akin to the counterbalance one
experiences when swinging a golf club.  Rather than lifting a weight (as in
traditional weight lifting), you’re trying to offset the weight of the bell, thereby
building strength while getting a great cardio workout.  Core conditioning is
essential, but when combined with the flexibility, cardio, and resistance
exercising that kettlebells offer, your body performs better, whether golfing,
playing tennis, hiking, water skiing or any physical activity.

EFFECTIVE & EFFICIENT RESULTS FOR BUSY
    PEOPLE
Kettlebells offer people the workout they know they want and need but put
off due to their busy schedules.  Many people believe they need separate
workouts to get their cardio, strength training, flexibility, and core
conditioning.  With kettlebells, you get it all in one place and in a single
workout.  Kettlebells are uncomplicated and can be used anywhere: at
home, the cabin, even outdoors.  Once the correct technique is learned,
doing 10-15 minutes a day will give you fantastic results.

    KETTLEBELLING IN THE STILLWATER AREA
Kettlebelling is still very new and has just recently arrived in the U.S.  Please
